Somewhere along the way, networks opened themselves up to a new world, where data was easier to access and more available. Like discovering any tool, the new power was exciting and dramati, and a burst of interesting phenomena occured: an environment with rich diversity. Like any rich environment, it seems envidable in human nature that someone would be interested in exploiting it. Eventually social, economic, and political communities moved in.

We're looking at chaos, boys and girls! While this may be an important and radical change, one thing has become more and more apparent: when you open the flood gates of technology to anyone, quite a lot of crap starts coming in. While corporations argue over the syntax of "e" versus "i", and simpletons recite the ambiguous mantra "information wants to be free!", it seems like something has been lost.

Philtered.Net is a community of Philadelphia-based folks who want to put out their own original, sincere technical projects, making some effort to cut through some of the usual bullshit associated with sites such as this.
