Abstract:

In the following essay, I will attempt to trace the reasons surrounding the party switch of the African-American voter from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party. I will examine the major figures involved in the political machinery from the ``roaring twenties'' upto the un-equivocated acceptance of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1936. Throughout I will point towards factors like race relations, and socio-economic conditions during each time period.
